I ran Quicksilver last night (original version, not the upcoming Pathfinder conversion).
Our heroes were following different leads. They'd begun to suspect that the Marquis' missing quicksilver items had escaped on their own, rather than being stolen.
Korel the mage (Denis Loubet) scoured the Marquis' library. The Vangari twins (Matt Sheffield and Leticia Sheffield) relished their assignment to investigate the 'theft' of a quicksilver item from their rival Mdme. LeSande - they exchanged witty barbs with her, and hired a band of sailors from the docks to tromp through her estate. Sha'avin (Talzhemir Mrr, the Marquis' daughter) and Marotu (Diesel LaForce) interviewed the new Chancellor about the misisng items and the old Chancellor's death. They were invited to attend his funeral on the following evening. Sha'avin's plaything, the quicksilver-animated doll Mauvais (Sean Summers) had wandered off without explanation.
All lines of investigation seemed to at least partially support their 'awakening, escaping items' theory - and one of the Vangaris' hired sailors said he might have seen Mdme. LeSande's missing quicksilver clock in the captain's quarters aboard the Kolkirian Queen!
Re-grouping, they ran down to the docks in Low Town. Three strange cloaked figures were about to board the Queen - whose decks swarmed with sailors preparing for launch. The PCs charged down the pier, firing bows, and found the cloaked figures to be a man and a goat possessed by the missing quicksilver - and their little friend Mauvais, who'd somehow joined them!
Suddenly pirates swarmed from the ship, protecting the creatures as they boarded. But the pirates proved no match for our heroes. Marotu cut a swathe through them with his twin blades, and the Vangaris slew several more. Sha'avin's arrows proved largely ineffective, but as did Korel's amateur swordsmanship, but Korel was able to provide magical healing.
The last 2 pirates fled back to the ship, followed by their furious captain. The quicksilver creatures were forced to disembark again to guard the gangplank, but the two larger ones were quickly cut down by the advancing players.
Then the pirate captain ordered his crew to cast off - leaving little Mauvais behind on the pier! Marotu tried an acrobatic leap onto the ship as the gangplank was dropped, but he missed and wound up in the water. Sha'avin managed to light a couple of arrows and fire them into the sails, but it proved to be too little. The Kolkirian Queen had put out to sea!
As the pirates sailed away, Mauvais explained that he had been invited on a trip by his 'cousins' - the other quicksilver creatures. And he revealed that the pirate captain is quicksilver thrall himself! As the session ended, the players were running back to shore to commandeer a ship to pursue the fleeing pirates.
