Since Rogers Cadenhead broke the story... workbench.cadenhead.org/news/3…

Yes, it's true. There's been a ruling in the legal battle over the V&V rights, and that ruling is very strongly in our favor as the original creators of the game.

Jack Herman and I have not yet issued any official statement about the ruling, because the other side has filed an appeal. We'll have an official statement when it's really and truly a done deal.

Thanks, everyone, for your support!

Otuléngba! (That's Tsolyani for 'Hallelujah'!)

Thanks to all my great backers, the project to revisit my lost artwork from the Legions of the Petal Throne painting Guide in Dragon Magazine #6 has already reached its funding goal. So it's onward to the stretch goals! I'll be creating illustrations of the underworld creatures that didn't get them in the original Empire of the Petal Throne rulebook. Every bonus drawing will automatically be included in every full set of prints!

First up are the Kúrgha (the Eaters of Carrion):

"These scuttling six-limbed furry beasts range up to some four feet in length and three feet tall. They have sharp beaks and three eyes. They live on refuse and carrion and will only attack when they outnumber a party... Their terrible stench warns a party of their presence at a distance of 50 feet - even through doors!"

At the end of each of my TSR Art Re-Creation projects on Kickstarter, I always wind up with a few prints left over due to printer overruns. I also still have most of the new originals. Thanks to all my great backers, this project has reached its funding goal - AND several stretch goals have already been unlocked!

Once again, I'm proposing to create portraits for the characters who (due to time constraints) didn't get 'em in the original book. But this time, every bonus drawing will automatically be included in every full set of prints!

Four of these stretch goal/bonus drawings have been unlocked so far. Every set of prints from this project will now ALSO include the new drawings of Rillithane Rallathil (Wood Elf god of Nature), Hruggek (Bugbear god of Battle), Deep Shashelas (Aquatic Elf god of Knowledge), and Skerrit (Centaur god of the Forest)!

Next in line is Grolantor, the Hill Giant god of Persecution.

Thanks, everyone, for all of your support!

I ran Quicksilver again last night (original version, not the upcoming Pathfinder conversion).

Sha'avin (Talzhemir Mrr, the Marquis' daughter) said, "Let's not commandeer a ship to pursue the fleeing pirates - let's take my father's gryphons!" She contacted the gryphon commander telepathically, and minutes later they were climbing into the night sky on gryphon-back, behind the beasts' riders. Korel the mage (Denis Loubet) was somewhat taken aback by this aerial travel...

They quickly caught up with the Kolkirian Queen. Taking advantage of a small cloud-bank, they moved into position - they suddenly dived toward the ship! Marotu (Diesel LaForce) dropped alone upon the deck amidship, while one gryphon (with Korel on board) rent the ship's sails, and Sha'avin and the Vangari twins (Matt Sheffield and Leticia Sheffield) flew in circles, pelting the pirate crew with arrows.

Mauvais (Sean Summers) had himself dropped to the deck, followed by Victoire Vangari. They got mixed up with pirates in the aft. Marotu was quickly surrounded, and did well at first but was eventually overwhelmed! Before his companions could reach him with assistance, he fell - apparently slain!

The Kolkirian Queen's captain, known to be a quicksilver thrall himself, finally emerged from below deck. A huge silvery tentacle emerged from beneath his eye-patch, plucking Victor Vangari from his circling gryphon! Victor severed the tentacle with a slash of his longsword, as Sha'avin swooped in to catch him before he fell into the sea.

The captain then joined his few remaining crewmen in a final battle amidship. Korel, after defeating a pirate in the rigging, joined Victoire and Mauvais in that melee. Finally - after a desperate battle in which Victoire was gravely injured - her brother Victor delivered a blow to the captain that laid him out on the deck. The last few pirates attempted to flee, but were collected by the gryphon-riders.

Korel knelt to attempt empathic healing upon Marotu, thinking it useless. But suddenly Marotu sat up - screaming - and Korel found that his healing was working. Later, Martotu would tell another of his wild stories - this one about dying, and meeting the terrified apparitions of the pirates he'd slain.

Now our heroes sail the tattered ship back to port. Onboard is a pirate chart of the mysterious Valsigian Circle - a region rumored to be rife with dark magicks!

I ran Quicksilver last night (original version, not the upcoming Pathfinder conversion).

Our heroes were following different leads. They'd begun to suspect that the Marquis' missing quicksilver items had escaped on their own, rather than being stolen.

Korel the mage (Denis Loubet) scoured the Marquis' library. The Vangari twins (Matt Sheffield and Leticia Sheffield) relished their assignment to investigate the 'theft' of a quicksilver item from their rival Mdme. LeSande - they exchanged witty barbs with her, and hired a band of sailors from the docks to tromp through her estate. Sha'avin (Talzhemir Mrr, the Marquis' daughter) and Marotu (Diesel LaForce) interviewed the new Chancellor about the misisng items and the old Chancellor's death. They were invited to attend his funeral on the following evening. Sha'avin's plaything, the quicksilver-animated doll Mauvais (Sean Summers) had wandered off without explanation.

All lines of investigation seemed to at least partially support their 'awakening, escaping items' theory - and one of the Vangaris' hired sailors said he might have seen Mdme. LeSande's missing quicksilver clock in the captain's quarters aboard the Kolkirian Queen!

Re-grouping, they ran down to the docks in Low Town. Three strange cloaked figures were about to board the Queen - whose decks swarmed with sailors preparing for launch. The PCs charged down the pier, firing bows, and found the cloaked figures to be a man and a goat possessed by the missing quicksilver - and their little friend Mauvais, who'd somehow joined them!

Suddenly pirates swarmed from the ship, protecting the creatures as they boarded. But the pirates proved no match for our heroes. Marotu cut a swathe through them with his twin blades, and the Vangaris slew several more. Sha'avin's arrows proved largely ineffective, but as did Korel's amateur swordsmanship, but Korel was able to provide magical healing.

The last 2 pirates fled back to the ship, followed by their furious captain. The quicksilver creatures were forced to disembark again to guard the gangplank, but the two larger ones were quickly cut down by the advancing players.

Then the pirate captain ordered his crew to cast off - leaving little Mauvais behind on the pier! Marotu tried an acrobatic leap onto the ship as the gangplank was dropped, but he missed and wound up in the water. Sha'avin managed to light a couple of arrows and fire them into the sails, but it proved to be too little. The Kolkirian Queen had put out to sea!

As the pirates sailed away, Mauvais explained that he had been invited on a trip by his 'cousins' - the other quicksilver creatures. And he revealed that the pirate captain is quicksilver thrall himself! As the session ended, the players were running back to shore to commandeer a ship to pursue the fleeing pirates.
