I ran Quicksilver again last night (original version, not the upcoming Pathfinder conversion).
Sha'avin (Talzhemir Mrr, the Marquis' daughter) said, "Let's not commandeer a ship to pursue the fleeing pirates - let's take my father's gryphons!" She contacted the gryphon commander telepathically, and minutes later they were climbing into the night sky on gryphon-back, behind the beasts' riders. Korel the mage (Denis Loubet) was somewhat taken aback by this aerial travel...
They quickly caught up with the Kolkirian Queen. Taking advantage of a small cloud-bank, they moved into position - they suddenly dived toward the ship! Marotu (Diesel LaForce) dropped alone upon the deck amidship, while one gryphon (with Korel on board) rent the ship's sails, and Sha'avin and the Vangari twins (Matt Sheffield and Leticia Sheffield) flew in circles, pelting the pirate crew with arrows.
Mauvais (Sean Summers) had himself dropped to the deck, followed by Victoire Vangari. They got mixed up with pirates in the aft. Marotu was quickly surrounded, and did well at first but was eventually overwhelmed! Before his companions could reach him with assistance, he fell - apparently slain!
The Kolkirian Queen's captain, known to be a quicksilver thrall himself, finally emerged from below deck. A huge silvery tentacle emerged from beneath his eye-patch, plucking Victor Vangari from his circling gryphon! Victor severed the tentacle with a slash of his longsword, as Sha'avin swooped in to catch him before he fell into the sea.
The captain then joined his few remaining crewmen in a final battle amidship. Korel, after defeating a pirate in the rigging, joined Victoire and Mauvais in that melee. Finally - after a desperate battle in which Victoire was gravely injured - her brother Victor delivered a blow to the captain that laid him out on the deck. The last few pirates attempted to flee, but were collected by the gryphon-riders.
Korel knelt to attempt empathic healing upon Marotu, thinking it useless. But suddenly Marotu sat up - screaming - and Korel found that his healing was working. Later, Martotu would tell another of his wild stories - this one about dying, and meeting the terrified apparitions of the pirates he'd slain.
Now our heroes sail the tattered ship back to port. Onboard is a pirate chart of the mysterious Valsigian Circle - a region rumored to be rife with dark magicks!
