This illustration is from my Kickstarter project to create drawings of all of the friendly nonhumans and land animals from Professor M.A.R. Barker's wonderful Tékumel (aka Empire of the Petal Throne) role-playing world setting.
"These passive, gentle creatures do not harm men unless attacked. They attempt to lumber away instead. Their bodies contain a gland, however, which is usually effective as a repellent for the Haquél, the Tletlákha, and certain other marine creatures, and this these huge vegetable eaters are hunted by men. This gland can be sold for around 2000 Káitars. The Tsi'il has a horny carapace, with a spiked crest, and rows of jagged spiky growths upon its back. It fights with a spiked mace-like ball at the end of its prehensile tail."
I wasn't able to locate a single drawing of this creature in any official, published Tékumel product - nor did the Tékumel Foundation provide any original sketches of it by Professor Barker. This one is therefor entirely my interpretation. A creature called a 'Nyár' is depicted in the Tékumel Bestiary, and described as being 'related to the Tsi'íl', so I took a few visual cues from that.
